Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips with commentary that analyze the representations of women that are prevalent in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded accolades for her work. She is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in popular culture narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as others on the internet. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued with gender issues and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop an online series which would explore how gender is represented in games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. It was not enough to deter her. It actually made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critic. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media journalist. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture gender representations.
