Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin, a Canadian-New Zealander actor. Paquin is a native of Winnipeg and grew up in Wellington and made her stage debut as Flora McGrath when she played her role in The Piano. She won an Academy Award at the age of 11 to be the Best Actress Supporting Actress. After she responded to an open call for auditions to play the character, she was chosen in the role of Flora McGrath, the daughter of a muted Scottish piano player who moved from Scotland to New Zealand in mid-19th-century to be married. At the time, she was nine and had no acting experience. At the age of 16 she emigrated into the United States. Paquin had a small part as the title character when she was still a kid on Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996) and she was a leading character in the film Fly Away Home (1996). Paquin was a part-time actress in the TV film of 1997 adapting Carson McCullers novel The Member of the Wedding. In Steven Spielberg's Amistad her character was the Spanish queen in a minor part. The actress played teens in Hurlyburly (1998) She's All That (1999) and A Walk on the Moon (1999) and portrayed the character of a groupie Polexia Aphrodisa In Almost Famous (2000).
