Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarship for his family as well as service to his community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In football, he played with three of his brothers in Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. Also, they won the national title twice. In 1975, he was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth time of service was ten-hours per week in volunteer work during the college. After graduation, Lee Roy settled in Tampa and spent the next 9 years with the Buccaneers. There were three times he was named an All-Pro. Lee Roy began his professional career. By 1988, he became an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young males. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. The year 1975 was the first time he was the captain of the squad. In 1993, he became the as associate director at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
